Loo Russian Team Championship Round two. Sprinters

The second round resulots suggest the favourites have strengthened their position further. The main task of any team with ambitions of winning a sprint even is to make a fast start. Kazan are collecting the points confidently  (4:2):

Timofeev (Kazan 2013)-Makarov (Chigorin Club)

Artyom confidently realises his undoubted positional advantage: 23…Rg8 24.Be2 Rad8 25.Rf2?! (25.Ng4) 25…Bg7 26.Bg4 Bc8 27.Bf5+ Kh8 28.Ng4 Qg5 29.Qxg5 Rxg5 30.Nxf6 (30… a5) [1 - 0]

St Petersburg scored a hard-fought win over Byelorechensk (3,5:2,5):

Movsesian (SPbSF)-Tregubov (Byelorechensk)

Movsesian caught his opponent in an unusual struggle. The positions, with an unusual material balance, ended as follows::

44.Qxc6+ (44… Kxc6)  [1 - 0]

The second round brought a new portion of surprises. Unlike yesterday, these occurred in more significant matches, with teams from the top ten suffering.

The rating favourite of the event found his king coming under a ferocious attack :

Jobava (PGMB Rostov)- Kariakin (Malakhit)

16…Rf4?! (16… Qd7) 17.h3 Bh5 18.Nc5 Bxc5 19.Rxc5 d4 20. e6 Bg6 21.Bd3 Qf6 22.Ng5 Ne7 23.Bxg6 hxg6 24.Ne4?! (24.g3) 24… Qxe6 25.Ng5 Qf6? (25… Qd6) 26.Re6 Qf8 27.Rxg6 Rh4 28.Ne6 (28… Nxg6)  [1 - 0] Sadly, Jobava's colleagues could not support him, and wins by Grischuk, Shirov and Malakhov brought Malakhit victory - 4:2.

The Israeli GM came out on top in a complicated struggle with mutual oversights:

Sutovsky (Navigator)-Caruana (SSM Nashe Nasledie)

In the women's event, the lead is held by Ugra. Given the shortness of the event, the world champion's team has already taken a serious step towards overall victory.
